The Senior System Engineer is a strategic technical position within the organization and will be called upon to resolve the highest level technical issues. This position will resolve escalated service issues, coach other engineers to resolutions, engineer and implement complex projects along with overseeing and maintaining the design and integrity of the entire technology environment for their assigned accounts.
Must live within the territory which is North-Central California - Fairfield, Vacaville, Davis, Antioch, Concord, Stockton, Modesto, Salinas, Gilroy, Morgan Hill, Pleasanton, San Jose, between Fresno and Sacramento.
What You Will Be Doing
Provide technical services and support for the following areas:
*Network level: WAN and LAN connectivity, routers, firewalls, and security Internal systems, cloud and network infrastructure.
*Microsoft related technologies: Windows Server, Exchange, SQL, SharePoint
*Virtualization technologies: VMware, Citrix, and Microsoft
*Storage Virtualization Technologies: iSCSI SAN, NAS, Nimble and EqualLogic
*Remote access solution support: VPN, Terminal Services, and Citrix
Remote monitoring and management of system alerts and notifications
Work escalated support issues related to Microsoft's core business solutions, WAN and LAN connectivity, routers, firewalls, security, and remote access solutions
Perform network assessments, security audits and new client consultations
Participate in the administration and maintenance of the remote monitoring and management system: update agent scripts, respond to alerts, monitor dashboard, and periodic system review
Work with Sales Team to Engineer projects, identify new products and solutions, and research solutions for existing clients
Document maintenance for all computer systems and network infrastructure
Communication with customers keeping them informed of incident progress, notifying them of impending changes or agreed outages
Offer assistance to other engineers and coach them to resolution
Engineer and implement system solutions for customers using technologies that meet their needs
Implement and support Disaster Recovery Solutions
Design and implement solutions with security in mind, ensure systems are properly secured and that security principles and best practices such as least privilege and attention to the CIA (Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability) triad are followed
Build test environment and proof of concept scenarios for unfamiliar or untested solutions before deploying into production environments
Manage and tune performance in a complex environment. Troubleshoot complex performance problems
Appropriately deploy and balance resources, manage memory, CPU, network, disk/IOPS utilization, etc.
Approximately 50% travel
- 3 Client visits approximately every other week
- 5 Client visits for monthly maintenance and projects
What You Need for this Position
BA/BS, preferably in computer science or a related field, or 4 additional years of IT experience
MBA/MS preferred but not required
5+ Years of business IT technical or related experience with at least 1 year at a Managed Services Provider
OR 5 years of business IT technical environments experience at the same time and in varying locations
*Professional IT Certifications Required:
Microsoft MCP, MCSA, or MCSE, Citrix CCEA or CCIA, SonicWALL CSSA, ConnectWise CCPA, LabTech LTCP, Cisco CCNA, or VMware VCP
*Minimum Required Certifications:
Current VMware VCP & Current Microsoft MCSA Windows Server or MCSE and One advanced Security software: Anti-virus, Anti-SPAM, Anti-Spyware and other security related technologies
Troubleshooting and Diagnosis skills of complex and unfamiliar technical issues
Multi-task and adapt to changes quickly
Strong Interpersonal skills: telephone skills, communication skills, active listening and customer-care
Work well in a team and communicate effectively
Coach and teach in a patient and articulate manner
Technical awareness: ability to match resources to technical issues appropriately
